On Sunday Me, Andrew, and Becca went to Babies-r-us to check out bedding sets for Everett's room. We have had some trouble finding something that we both liked so I thought maybe it would be easier to decide if we were actually there looking at it in person. Becca and I got there and Andrew wasn't there yet so it gave me an opportunity to look around at some of the strollers and such and get an idea of what I like before he got there. I found a stroller that I really liked and of course it had a matching swing and bouncy seat to go with it! But I looked it up on the Internet yesterday and the stroller hasn't been getting good ratings. They have been saying the car seat that goes with it is too heavy. So I may have to look into another one. I love the Internet! It keeps you from buying stuff that isn't any good.
Anyway, Andrew finally got there and we went and looked at some of the chairs cause I had been having some trouble finding one that I liked. I sat in a bunch until I finally found one I liked. Andrew is a little concerned about the price. But I explained to him that this chair should be around for awhile and if all goes well should be used with all of our children. So it is more like an investment :) (he is still thinking about it). After we looked at chairs we started looking at bedding. Andrew, of course wanted the sports sets and I may have thought about it but all of them are such dark masculine colors. Anyway I was immediately drawn to the one we decided on which I thought was weird cause I had ruled it out when I was looking at it on the Internet. Andrew was a little concerned about how it would look with our crib but I eventually talked him into it. So here it is! We decided not to get the set on Sunday and order it online later on. But I did get the wall hangings that go with it so that I could figure out paint colors. I took a picture of them in Everett's room, they are really cute! My favorite one is the whale! That is all for now! I have to go and pack. I am going to Florida with my parents for the week! YAY! Fun in the sun! Poor Andrew has to stay at home!
I went to the doctor today for my 16 week visit. I finally remembered to bring a book with me and I was really happy that I did because when I walked in the waiting there was a TON of people there. There were ever a few couples in there and everyone knows when you see couples in this kind of doctors office they are usually pregnant. I remember thinking awww...it seems like just yesterday Andrew and I were in here waiting to see our baby for the first time. I really did not wait as long as I thought I was going to have to. Just a few minutes. They took me back and checked my weight (another 4 lbs), checked my blood pressure. I asked them if they could check my iron level because I had been feeling really tired lately so they pricked my finger. They also had to draw some blood for the second part of the genetic birth defects testing (which I did not realize). I hate getting my blood drawn, but luckily the veins cooperated!! I then went back to see the doctor. The doctors office I go to is a team of doctors that you rotate through throughout your pregnancy. So this time I saw a new doctor. He was really nice! I laid down on the table so that he could find Everett's heartbeat. Now if you remember, at my last appointment my doctor had some trouble finding the heartbeat and I more or less freaked out so I was a little nervous about that being the case this time. Well there was no trouble this time! As soon as he put the thing on my belly there was the heartbeat! He said it was beating really fast and was beating at about 160bpm! He asked if we were going to find out the sex of the baby at our next appointment and I told him that we actually already knew. He said,"What is it? A girl?" I guess because the heartbeat was so fast. I said nope it's a boy! I guess our boy just has a fast heartbeat! So he scheduled me for my next appointment in 3 weeks and told me that I can bring a DVD-R in so they can record the session. I think I may do that even though we just got one because Andrew will not be able to be there (he can't get off work). But I am glad that everything seems to be going so well and that our little boy is healthy! Well, that is it for now! I will post some more soon!
On Friday morning we went to First Glimpse to find out what our little peanut was. Before we got there I drank a whole can of coke which I was hoping would make the baby a little more active because I had not drank ANY caffeine since before I got pregnant. Which I happen to be pretty proud of considering how much of a caffeine freak I was before :). When we got in there we had to fill out some paperwork. Then the lady took us back to the room. It definitely did not look like the ultrasound rooms at the doctor's office. I laid down on the huge bed/table thing and then she put the wand on my belly and there he was! She was moving the wand around trying to get the baby into the right position. She had a bit of a hard time because he was moving around A LOT (I wonder if it was the caffeinehehe). When she finally got him in the right position the cord was going right in between the legs. So she did some 4D pictures for a little while hoping that as much as he was moving around that the cord would move out of the way. The 4D pictures were really cool. You could really see his features and his cute little button nose! At one point he kept putting his hand over his face so that you couldn't see his face. I was like just like my child to get picture shy. During this whole process I kept looking over at Andrew. At one point I looked at him and he just seemed to be watching in amazement. I thought it was really cute. She went back to the 2D and tried to find the babies' sex. The cord was still in the way but she turned on this thing where she could see the blood flowing through the cord. But it didn't matter. I knew whether the cord was there or not that there was a little wee wee there. It was a couple minutes later when she finally confirmed the it was a BOY! After she confirmed we did some more 4D pictures and some more 2D. Before leaving she gave me a sticker that said IT"S A BOY! on it. We then went to the front I got a frame the said "Oh Boy!" on it to put the ultrasound pictures in. The lady printed out some pictures and then made a CD of all of the pictures and also gave me a DVD of the whole session. I thought it was a really great experience and I was so happy that I decided to do it! Here are some pictures from that day
This is Everett Lee Ivy! little wee wee little footsie our little boy hand over his face
With all of the excitement of waiting to find out whether that baby is a boy or a girl I forgot to tell everyone that I started feeling the baby move last week! Andrew did not believe me when I told him at first. He was like "are you sure it is not gas?" That truth is I can see how some people might confuse it with that but it so far is in a different area and feels different. Also I have discovered when you are pregnant that gas HURTS! It started on Tuesday of last week. I was sitting in my chair being really still and then all of a sudden I felt something that can only be described as pop corn popping in my lower belly. As the week progressed I felt it a little more but only when I was sitting really still. With all of the stuff going on with my dad last week and with the ginormous amount of hormones raging through my body I got really upset. That night I felt the baby move around a lot. I was told that might happen though since the baby and I are connected and all. On Friday, Andrew and I were in the car on the way to visit my parents and the baby must have liked it because I did not get the usual pop corn feeling, this time it was more like a worm squirming in my belly. I told Andrew and my parents that the baby was performing acrobatics! Again, I only felt this when I was sitting down. I didn't feel the squirmyness for the rest of the weekend. I think I felt it a little bit yesterday when Andrew and I were at the grocery store but I cannot be for sure. The baby seems to move around the most at night time. Well that is it for now! I am looking forward to the baby's movements getting stronger and Andrew being able to feel it! I know he can't wait either.
So Andrew and I were at Wal-Mart looking around in the baby section. I saw this blanket and I just could not resist! In case you cannot tell it is yellow and green which can go for either gender and it is a giraffe! Too Cute!!! Andrew gave me the eye when I picked it up and I told him that I didn't care what he said I was buying (haha). I also ordered the baby's crib from Babies-R-Us a couple weeks ago and it arrived on Wednesday last week! I am so excited I cannot wait to put it together and see how it looks in the room. Here is a picture of the crib from the website so you have some idea. We have also been buying diapers every time we go to the grocery store. I am hoping that maybe by the time the baby gets here we will have enough to last for awhile. I also got a breast pump from my sister this weekend and some baby clothes. They are for a boy but I figure if it is not a boy then I can just box them up and save them for later. But if it is a boy that a few less clothes that I have to buy!
So Friday is the big day! It is the day that we get to hopefully find out what the baby is (providing that he/she cooperates)!!! Andrew and I are really excited. Because the doctor does not actually do another ultrasound until 20 weeks and I am far too impatient to wait that long we are going to the first glimpse place. The ultrasound will mainly be done in 2D but they said that they will do a few in 3D if they get some good positions. I am really looking forward to the experience!
On Friday Andrew and I are leaving to go to Savannah for our first anniversary!!! Whoo Hoo I am so excited! We are going to be gone until Monday! We are planning on eating a lot of good food. Walking around and maybe going to Tybee! Oh and eating some year old wedding cake! I hope it tastes good.
Alright, that is all for now! I will let everyone know on Friday if it is a boy or a girl!
Oh and I forgot the Genetic Birth defects testing came back negative! Whew! Now I guess Andrew can rest easy. :)
My husband the worry wart wanted us to go in and have some type of birth defects testing to look for such things as down syndrome and spinal abifida, which normally me being the person who always like to prepare herself for the worst would have been up for that, but after Andrew suggested that we do it I found myself being optomistic. We have no signs of any of those birth defects in our families and even if our baby had turned out to have one of thoe things we would not have changed our mind about having it anyway. But in order to make him feel better I decided to do it and to make myself feel even better I told myself that ment one more time that I was able see our baby!
So I went in for the testing today. They weighed me and took my blood pressure and then sent me back to the ultrasound room. Turns out they needed to do an ultrasound on my tummy and the other way much to my surprise! We started out doing the test on my tummy and I was so amazed when I first saw our little peanut how much it had grown. It was crazy. As she maneuvered the sonogram thingy around I could see the baby's arms and legs kicking. It's hear beating once again and I saw it flip around and move! It was sooo amazing! At one point she was knocking on my tummy to get peanut to move around and I could see it bouncing up and down. You could also tell that peanut was tired of getting it's picture taken because eventually it stopped cooperating and the ultrasound tech said she thought she may have made peanut mad! Then she went in to do the ultrasound the other way and I saw peanuts skull and some other stuff. She even sent me away with a few pictures!! Much better than the last ones.
For this particular test they were looking for the amount of fluid in peanut's spinal cord behind its neck. They say if there is a large build up of fluid the child is more likely to wind up having a birth defect. The ultrasound tech said that everything looked normal on the ultrasound but they still needed to send the pictures in with some of my blood to make sure. So we are suppose to hear back from them sometime next week to find out for sure. Of course this posting would not be complete without a recent belly picture. Andrew actually asked me if I was poking my belly out in this picture and when I told him no he said, "you swear?!" You can probably see why he might ask!
Andrew and I have been together for 8 years and been married for a year and a half. We just had a little boy named Everett on November 18, 2009. We are so happy to finally be parents! We look forward to where this journey takes us and hope this blog helps everyone stay up to date with what is going on in our lives!
